Hi Simon If you had a light house shaped grad filter you would need a set to allow for different positions in the scene Nice work all the same though I will have to try the coast a bit more than I have done up to now
Not if the lighthouse is always in the top right third quadrant like it is here, turn it round for the top left And yes that leaves the bottom left and right uncovered ha ha. Just because I was being sarcastic doesn't mean you have to be
I stumbled across this place in 2005, it hasn't changed a bit, there are even still the derelict boats in the exact same positions, time has stopped!
Anyway its a great little location to get some good shots in the right conditions, wasn't great the day I was there, but you have what you have on the day and go with it.
Some scenes do kind of lend themselves to a decent FF camera compositionally for wide angle, so maybe worth a visit. Although the camera and tripod did raise a few eyebrows, nothing new there though.
Actually a lot of the coast from Nairn to Peterhead is quite interesting.
Thanks for the comment, glad you liked it even with the sarcasm!
Me sarcastic ! , only trying to be creative . It also occurred to me that you would need different sizes depending on how close you are the light house Anyway enough of that, I really should get up to the coast especially as I work quite near the coast you are speaking about, although I am never near often there when the light is best. I've never really noticed anything with the tripod although I do try to stick to more out of the way places.
"Can someone please invent me a lighthouse shape grad filter" ... I've never used one despite taking landscapes most days !
With digital it's far easier that film by just making two layers in Photoshop. In extreme cases of sky brightness and foreground darkness take two images with camera on tripod exposing one frame correctly exposed for each. It's got to be easy in PS because I wouldn't be able to do it if it was complicated !
However, with my Fuji S5 with it's two sets of pixels available on demand it can be within one frame, but still creating two layers from the one frame can still sometimes improve the final image.

They wouldn’t have made the cane if you weren’t meant to break the rules!
